We consider our clubhouse a home away from home with first-class benefits. There are multiple comfortable spaces to bring a laptop and get serious work done or find time to chat with members from different professions and share ideas and business opportunities. A few floors away are spa and workout facilities with personal training, a swimming pool and competitive sports. Barber, massage and dry-cleaning services are available. Social programs that make it easy to meet people round out the day, and freshly prepared food is offered from breakfast onward in settings that range from casual to luxurious. All to be enjoyed with family, friends or with a good book by a roaring fireplace.

With so much to offer its members, it is not surprising that the Union League Club is rated one of the top private clubs in the country. The finest professional staff provides outstanding service in the Clubhouse facilities, which include two restaurants, a gastro pub, a coffee shop, event spaces that seat from two to 400, six floors of fitness facilities, large and small conference rooms, a library, remote workspaces, and 180 overnight guest rooms. Through reciprocal privileges, members are able to stay and dine in hundreds of other excellent private clubs around the world.
History of the Club
The Union Leagues of America was founded in 1862 in Pekin, Illinois to affirm the patriotic cause of the Union, support the policies of Illinoian Abraham Lincoln and combat pro-slavery secret societies infiltrating Illinois and elsewhere. Thousands of Union Leagues of America branches organized around the country and, with their objectives met, most disbanded after the war.
As Chicago burned and then boomed during the 1870s, former Union League members in the Chicago area began discussing the establishment of a downtown club and on December 19, 1879, the Union League Club of Chicago was incorporated.
To this day, the Club upholds the sacred obligations of citizenship, promotes honesty and efficiency in government, supports cultural institutions and the beautification of the city and supports our nation’s military and their families.
Through the efforts of its dynamic membership, the Club has been a catalyst for action in nonpartisan political, economic and social arenas – focusing its leadership and resources on important social issues. As early as 1893, Chicago gained recognition as a world-class city when it hosted the World’s Columbian Exposition. Club members were instrumental in having Chicago named as the site of the exposition by the United States Congress, with Daniel Burnham, a member of the Club, leading the charge. Since that time, Club members have played a role in establishing many of the city’s cultural organizations, including Orchestra Hall and the Field Museum. In the 1990s, the Club celebrated its role in the opening of the Harold Washington Library Center and continues to do work in justice, education and government reform.
